LEVANTAR FLP500 ELECTRIC PATIENT LIFT — 500 LB CAPACITY OVERVIEW

If you're reading this, there's a good chance you've already done more lifting than your back was ever meant to handle. Maybe you've woken up with muscle spasms after a rough transfer. Maybe you've had that terrifying moment where your loved one nearly slipped. Or maybe a doctor, nurse, or physical therapist finally told you what you've been dreading: "You cannot keep lifting them like this. You're going to get hurt."

You are not weak for needing help. You're being smart — for you, and for the person you're caring for.

The Levantar FLP500 Electric Patient Lift (by Drive Medical) exists for exactly this moment. It's the lift you get when you've decided that daily transfers are no longer something you should be doing with your own back, and they're not going to get easier without help. What you're really buying isn't a piece of medical equipment — it's the ability to get your loved one out of bed without fear, to help them to the bathroom without dreading it, and to catch a full night's sleep knowing that if they fall, you can safely lift them off the floor by yourself. That's what this lift gives you.

Here's why the FLP500 specifically: it holds up to 500 lb (real margin for bariatric patients, not a stretched-thin "up to" number), the base slides under almost any bed at just 2.3" tall (so you don't have to buy risers or move furniture to make it work), and it's backed by Drive Medical's Lifetime Limited frame warranty + 5 years on electronics — the longest coverage in this category. You buy it once, and it works. For need-a-lighter-foldable option with a sling in the box, see our Invacare I-Lift 450 instead.

Most patient lifts have a 4.5–6" base clearance — a real problem if the patient's bed is a low-profile platform bed, has storage drawers, or has a fabric skirt. The Levantar FLP500's 2.3" clearance is nearly half that. It slides under almost any bed, sofa, or recliner without needing bed risers or furniture adjustments. If you've had a lift not fit under your bed before, this is the one that will.
Not sure if your bed will work? Call (713) 695-4939 with a measurement — we'll confirm before you order.
⚠️ Slings sold separately Unlike some competitor lifts, the Levantar FLP500 does not include a sling in the box — you'll need to add at least one (typically a full-body sling to start). See the Accessories section below for options, or call us at (713) 695-4939 and we'll help you pick the right sling for the patient's needs. Common starter sling adds ~$150–$250. For a lift with a universal sling included, see the Invacare I-Lift 450 instead.

PROFESSIONAL-GRADE LIFTING FOR REAL-WORLD CARE SITUATIONS

Think about what a difficult day looks like right now: getting them out of bed for breakfast, to the bathroom, back to the recliner, to the bathroom again, back to bed for a nap, and repeat. Each one of those transfers is a moment where your back is at risk and your loved one is at risk of a fall. The Levantar FLP500 turns each of those moments into a calm, controlled, one-caregiver process that doesn't leave you sore at the end of the day. The powered lift motor does the actual lifting — all you do is position the sling and press the pendant. The ultra-low 2.3" base means the lift works with the bed you already have, not the bed you'd have to buy. If the power goes out mid-transfer, the redundant manual controls let you safely lower your loved one — you're never stuck. The obstruction sensor stops the boom if it touches something (or someone), so a small mistake doesn't become an emergency. The LCD control module tells you battery level and warns before it's low, so you're never surprised. And the Lifetime Limited frame warranty + 5-year electronics coverage means Drive Medical stands behind this equipment for years — which matters when you're spending real money on something that has to work every single day.

    A great fit for:
    • You're the primary caregiver and your back is telling you the manual transfers can't continue — this is the equipment that lets you keep caring for them at home
    • Your loved one is heavier than most lifts are rated for (close to or over 450 lb) and you need real capacity headroom, not a lift that's technically "rated" but strains at your patient's weight
    • You've already tried a lift that didn't fit under the bed, or you have a low-profile / platform / storage bed where standard lifts won't slide underneath
    • You want equipment that will still be working in five or ten years — not something that'll need replacing when the warranty expires
    • You're worried about fall recovery — what happens if they end up on the floor and you can't lift them alone (the 16.9" low reach handles this)
    • You're a facility, rehab center, or long-term care operator buying equipment that has to survive years of shift-work use

    KEY FEATURES
    What you'll notice
    (in daily use)
FeatureWhat it really means for you
    💪
    500 lb Safe Working Load
Highest capacity in the Levantar line
Genuine 500 lb rated capacity gives real headroom for bariatric patients. Where 450 lb lifts are at their limit with heavier patients, this one still has margin for sling weight and normal movement.
    📏
    2.3" low ground clearance
    Fits under nearly any furniture
Half the base height of typical patient lifts. If you've struggled with a lift that wouldn't fit under a platform bed, storage bed, or sofa, this one will. Real difference in daily usability.
    🔽
    16.9" to 69.1" lifting range
    Lifts patients from the floor
The low 16.9" reach handles very low positions — critical for fall recovery from carpet or hardwood. The 69.1" top reach lifts to beds, exam tables, and chair heights.
Powered base + electric lift motor
    Smooth, controlled operation
Powered base opening (adjust the base spread with the pendant) and electric boom lifting mean minimal caregiver effort for even heavy patients. Push-button pendant control puts full operation in one hand.
    🔄
    Six-point cradle with spring clips
    Aluminum construction, wide sling attachment
The 6-point cradle spreads the load across six attachment points instead of two or four — more comfortable for the patient and works with any 2/4/6-point sling. Aluminum spring clips prevent sling detachment during rotation.
    🛠️
    Redundant manual + powered controls
    Works during power outages
If the pendant fails or power runs out mid-transfer, mechanical override controls let you safely lower the patient. No stress about batteries dying while a patient is suspended.
    📊
    LCD safety control module
    Real-time battery, overload, service alerts
Clear digital display shows current battery level, overload warnings, and maintenance reminders. Take the guesswork out of knowing when the lift needs service or charging.
    🛑
    Obstruction sensor
Stops boom on contact with object/person
Automatic sensor stops the boom's downward movement if it hits an obstacle. Critical safety feature for caregivers working alone, or in tight spaces near furniture.
    🔋
    24V DC battery + off-board charger
    External charging station included
Rechargeable 24V DC battery pack. The external charger stand lets you charge either on or off the lift — a spare battery can be kept ready for zero downtime during busy days.
    🛞
    3" front / 4" locking rear casters
    Oversized rear wheels for stability
Oversized rear casters roll smoothly across carpet, tile, and hardwood. Rear casters lock securely in place during transfers to prevent unwanted movement.
    🎯
    Wide sling compatibility
    Full-body, divided-leg, toileting, mesh
Works with all standard sling types — pick the right sling for the transfer (full-body for general transfers, divided-leg for lower-body access, toileting for commode transfers, mesh for bathing).
    🏆
Lifetime frame + 5yr electronics warranty
    Best-in-class coverage
Drive Medical stands behind this lift with lifetime frame coverage and 5 years on electronics — significantly longer than most competitors (typically 3 years frame / 1 year electronics). Reflects the build quality.
    WHY WE RECOMMEND IT
What makes the FLP500 the right pick
    (at a glance)
The 2.3" clearance is a genuine daily-use advantage:Most patient lifts need 4.5–6" of clearance under furniture — a real problem with modern low-profile beds. The FLP500 slides under almost anything. If you've had a lift not fit before, this solves that.
500 lb capacity with real margin:Rated 500 lb Safe Working Load, not "up to" or "tested at." Handles bariatric patients that 400–450 lb lifts can't safely lift. Best-in-class capacity in this price range.
Lifetime frame warranty is rare in this category:Most competitors offer 3-year lift warranties. Drive Medical's Lifetime Limited on the frame + 5 years on electronics reflects real confidence in the build quality — and protects your investment for the long term.
Redundant safety systems for peace of mind:Backup manual controls, LCD alerts, obstruction sensor, low-battery warnings, overload protection — the safety features are what you'd expect from a hospital-grade lift, not a home care unit.
6-point cradle works with any sling type:Full-body, divided-leg, toileting, mesh bathing — any standard sling attaches. Flexibility to pick the right sling for each transfer situation.
Off-board charger + rechargeable battery:Charge either on or off the lift. A spare battery kept on the external charger means zero downtime during busy care days.
Priced below comparable 450 lb-capacity lifts:You get higher capacity, lower clearance, and longer warranty at a lower sale price than most 450 lb lifts — unusual value in this category.

    FAQs
    Common questions before ordering
    (fit · slings · warranty · coverage)
Should I choose the Levantar FLP500 or the Invacare I-Lift 450?
    A quick decision guide:

Pick the FLP500 if: patient weight is close to or above 450 lb, your bed/furniture has low clearance (under 4"), you want the longest warranty coverage, or the lift will stay in one place (no need to fold).
Pick the Invacare I-Lift 450 if: you need to fold and store the lift, you want a sling included in the box, you prefer a lighter unit (118 vs 128 lb), or you need the higher 76.1" top reach.

Both are excellent lifts. Call (713) 695-4939 and we'll help you pick based on the patient's weight, your bed, and how you'll use it.
Will the FLP500 fit under my bed, sofa, or recliner?
Almost certainly — the FLP500's base is only 2.3" tall. That's roughly half the clearance most patient lifts need (4.5–6" typical). It fits under most modern platform beds, storage beds, and low-profile bed frames without needing bed risers. Common exceptions: some ultra-low platform beds without any underneath space, and furniture with fabric skirts that touch the floor. Measure the clearance under your bed before ordering — or call (713) 695-4939 with your measurement and we'll confirm it works.
The FLP500 doesn't include a sling. What do I need to buy?
Unlike some competitor lifts, the FLP500 sells the lift and slings separately — which lets you pick exactly the right sling for the patient. At minimum you'll need one full-body sling (typically ~$150–$250) to start using the lift. Common additions over time:

Mesh full-body sling — for bathing (drains water quickly)
Sling with commode opening — for toileting transfers
Divided-leg sling — for patients with lower-limb injuries or amputations
Toileting sling — specifically for bathroom transfers

Call (713) 695-4939 and we'll help you pick the right starter sling for the patient's specific transfer situations.
Can this lift really handle a 500 lb patient?
Yes — the 500 lb Safe Working Load is a rated, tested capacity, not a marketing number. For patients close to 500 lb, we recommend keeping a small safety margin (up to about 450 lb) to account for sling weight, clothing, and normal movement during a lift. Patients over 500 lb need a heavier-capacity bariatric lift — call us and we'll help you find the right option.
Can this lift really pick up a patient from the floor after a fall?
Yes — the lift range goes down to 16.9" at the sling hook-up point, which is low enough to position the sling under a patient on the floor. The FLP500's low range is actually one of the best in this class — lower than many competitors. Fall recovery is one of the most important safety features of a home care lift. That said, positioning a sling under a fallen patient takes practice — do a few practice runs with the patient on a low bed before an emergency happens.
Does the base fit through my doorways?
With the base closed, it's 27.6" wide — fits through every standard interior doorway (28", 30", or 32"). With the base open (spread wide to fit around a wheelchair or bariatric chair), it's 42.3" wide — you'll need a wider passage, or you'll need to close the base to move between rooms. The base opens and closes via the pendant (powered), so it's easy to switch between narrow and wide as you move.
How long does the battery last, and what happens if it dies?
Typical usage delivers hundreds of lifts per charge. The LCD control module shows current battery level so you can plan ahead. If the battery does run out during a lift, the redundant manual controls let you safely lower the patient using mechanical override — no scary situations. The off-board charger stand included with the lift means you can charge the battery separately from the lift, so a spare battery can be kept ready if you use the lift heavily.
Is the FLP500 covered by Medicare or insurance?
Yes. This lift carries HCPCS code E0635 (Patient lift, electric with seat or sling). Medicare Part B covers patient lifts as durable medical equipment (DME) with a doctor's prescription documenting medical necessity — typically that the patient cannot be safely transferred by other means and that a caregiver cannot lift them manually without risk of injury. Medicaid and most private insurers also cover patient lifts with similar documentation. Coverage often runs 80% (Medicare Part B), with the remaining 20% subject to your deductible and any secondary insurance. Call us at (713) 695-4939 and we'll talk through what your specific plan requires.
What does the Lifetime Limited warranty actually cover?
The Lifetime Limited warranty covers the frame and mast (the structural components) for as long as the original purchaser owns the lift — covering manufacturing defects and premature failure under normal use. The 5-year electronics warranty covers the motor, pendant, LCD module, and control systems. The 1-year battery warranty covers the battery pack. Warranty excludes damage from misuse, abuse, exceeding the 500 lb capacity, water damage from improper cleaning, and normal wear items (casters, cables). This warranty package is one of the best in the category — most competitors offer 3 years or less on the frame.
Do I need training to use this safely?
The operation itself is straightforward (pendant with up/down/base-open buttons, obvious sling attachment points on the 6-point cradle). But we strongly recommend at least one supervised transfer with an experienced caregiver, home health nurse, or physical therapist — or our delivery technician — before doing solo transfers. Sling positioning under a patient (especially a non-ambulatory patient) takes practice to do quickly, comfortably, and safely. Our White Glove Delivery service includes a demo of basic operation and sling attachment.
Ready to talk through the details?
Call (713) 695-4939. Patient lifts are a purchase where getting the right lift + right sling combination matters more than saving 10% on the price. We'll walk through it with you — no rush, no pressure.
