The RICE protocol (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) that your surgeon prescribed is best delivered when your ankle is elevated above heart level, and this pad is designed to stay in place during elevation.
How to elevate properly:
• Prop your foot up on 2–3 firm pillows, an elevation wedge, or the elevated footrest of a recliner
• Position so your ankle is above the level of your heart (higher = better for swelling drainage)
• Sustain for as long as your surgeon prescribed (often 30-45 minutes at a time, multiple times per day, plus overnight)
