BREG POLAR CARE CUBE WRAPON SHOULDER PAD OVERVIEW If you're facing shoulder surgery rotator cuff repair, labral repair SLAP tear or Bankart, shoulder replacement, biceps tendon repair, or arthroscopic decompression you're about to discover something nobody quite explained shoulder recovery is uniquely brutal. It's not the surgery itself. It's the two to six weeks afterward where you can't lie flat to sleep, you can't reach behind you, you can't put on a shirt without help, and you can't do almost anything with the arm that used to do most things. And the cold therapy your surgeon prescribed the single most important thing you can do at home to control swelling is nearly impossible to actually maintain with traditional ice packs. Here's why the shoulder is a sloped surface. Ice packs and gel wraps slide off within minutes, especially when you're semi-reclined in a recliner which is where most post-op shoulder patients sleep for the first few weeks. Applying anything one-handed on your dominant side is a fumbling struggle. And the sling you're wearing 24/7 means whatever cold therapy you use has to work around or with the sling, not replace it. Traditional ice therapy demands you re-freeze every 20 minutes a nightmare when getting up and down from a recliner is painful and slow. That's what the Breg Polar Care Cube system was designed to solve and this WrapOn Shoulder Pad is the piece that actually touches your body. The Polar Care Cube unit sold separately circulates continuous chilled water through the pad using a quiet motorized pump. The pad is anatomically shaped to wrap the shoulder joint over the top, across the front, around to the back with adjustable straps that keep it in place through the night. Continuous cold at a controlled therapeutic temperature. Hours of therapy per ice fill. Compatible with sling wear. Applied once with help from a caregiver, and it stays. What you're really buying isn't just a pad. It's overnight swelling control while you sleep in the recliner. It's a shoulder that arrives at PT calm instead of inflamed. It's independence during recovery you or your caregiver apply the pad once, and it works for hours without intervention. Manufactured by Breg one of the most trusted names in orthopedic recovery, used in surgical protocols at hospitals and orthopedic centers nationwide. You're Viewing Polar Care Cube Shoulder Pad Adjustable Fit Medical Grade Model PC-C-S Breg Important Pad Only The Polar Care Cube therapy unit is sold separately This listing is for the shoulder pad only. To use it, you also need the Polar Care Cube motorized cold compression unit the pump/reservoir that circulates chilled water through the pad. The system separates the pad and unit so patients can buy the correct joint-specific pad for their treatment area the same unit works with shoulder, knee, ankle, hip, and back pads. If you don't have the unit yet, call 713 695-4939 and we'll set you up with the complete system. The WrapOn shoulder pad is anatomically contoured to sit over the top of the shoulder and wrap around the front, the back, and down the upper arm. The dual strap system secures the pad through the shoulder circumference chest/upper back and the bicep so cold coverage stays where you need it even while semi-reclined in a recliner where most post-op shoulder patients sleep for the first few weeks. Works with your sling apply the pad first, then the sling goes on over it. Medical Grade Breg trusted by orthopedic surgeons The Polar Care Cube system is manufactured by Breg, one of the most trusted names in orthopedic recovery. Their cold therapy systems are used in surgical recovery protocols nationwide hospitals, orthopedic surgery centers, and physical therapy clinics rely on Breg equipment for post-op patients. The WrapOn shoulder pad is built to the same medical-grade durability standards reinforced water channels, medical-grade fabric, easy-clean surface, and designed to last through months of recovery use. COLD COMPRESSION THAT ACTUALLY STAYS ON YOUR SHOULDER When your surgeon prescribes cold therapy after shoulder surgery often for 4 to 6 hours a day for the first two weeks, plus overnight they're not making a suggestion. Post-operative swelling in the shoulder joint is one of the biggest drivers of prolonged stiffness, delayed range-of-motion recovery, and slower return to physical therapy progression. But following that protocol with traditional ice packs is nearly impossible for one specific reason the shoulder isn't flat. This system solves that. The WrapOn Shoulder Pad attaches to the Polar Care Cube unit sold separately via an insulated hose. Ice water circulates through the pad's internal channels, delivering continuous cold at a therapeutic temperature the unit maintains automatically. The pad wraps over the shoulder from front to back using the dual strap system one strap around the shoulder circumference across chest and upper back, one around the bicep. This gives cold coverage on all sides of the shoulder joint, not just the top surface. The pad stays in place while you sleep semi-reclined, walk around, or do gentle PT range-of-motion exercises. Refilling the unit's reservoir with ice takes 30 seconds and typically lasts 46 hours of continuous therapy. For patients recovering from rotator cuff repair, labral surgery, shoulder replacement, biceps tendon repair, or arthroscopic decompression, this is the difference between compliance and struggle. Between getting real sleep in the recliner and 3 AM wake-ups. Between showing up to physical therapy with a calm, iced shoulder and showing up with an inflamed, stiff one. It's also excellent for frozen shoulder therapy, chronic impingement flare-ups, and sports injury swelling control. A great fit for You're recovering from shoulder surgery rotator cuff, labral, shoulder replacement, biceps repair, arthroscopy and your surgeon has prescribed consistent post-operative cold therapy You already own the Polar Care Cube motorized cold compression unit or you're purchasing the complete system and need the shoulder-specific pad You know you'll be sleeping semi-reclined in a recliner for the first few weeks post-op and need cold therapy that won't slide off the sloped shoulder surface Your shoulder circumference is 14" 18" 36 46 cm and bicep circumference is 10" 14" 25 36 cm You'll be wearing a sling for weeks post-op and need cold therapy that works with the sling apply pad first, then sling on top You're dealing with a sports injury rotator cuff strain, labral tear, AC joint sprain, dislocation and need serious swelling control You have chronic shoulder issues frozen shoulder, impingement, arthritis that respond well to prolonged cold therapy You want a durable, washable cold therapy solution not a disposable ice pack that needs replacing every few weeks You value Breg's medical-grade construction and reputation in orthopedic recovery equipment KEY FEATURES What you'll noticein daily use FeatureWhat it really means for you Anatomically shaped for the shoulderWraps front to back over the topNot a flat pad you strap onto the top of the shoulder. The WrapOn design contours over the shoulder joint top, front, back, and down the upper arm so cold therapy reaches the actual surgical or injured area on all sides, not just one surface. Dual adjustable strap systemShoulder bicep strapsOne strap goes around the shoulder circumference across chest and upper back. Second strap secures around the bicep. Together they keep the pad from sliding off the sloped shoulder surface, even when you're semi-reclined. Adjustable for changing post-op swelling. Recliner-sleep compatibleStays on while semi-reclinedMost post-op shoulder patients sleep in a recliner for the first several weeks. The dual-strap design means the pad stays in place even at the angles you sit at when semi-reclined unlike ice packs, which slide off within minutes at any angle. Works with your slingApply pad first, sling overThe pad is thin enough to wear under most post-op slings. Apply the shoulder pad first, then put your sling on over it. Cold therapy continues while you're in the sling critical since you'll be in the sling almost constantly for weeks. Continuous cold circulationConsistent therapeutic temperatureChilled water from the Polar Care Cube unit circulates through internal pad channels, maintaining a consistent therapeutic temperature that ice packs can't match. No warm spots. No frostbite risk from direct ice contact. Hours of continuous therapy per fill. Fits typical adult shoulders1418" shoulder 1014" bicepSized for adult shoulders in typical adult circumference ranges. Measure both shoulder circumference across the chest/upper back at armpit level and bicep circumference. For sizes outside this range, larger or smaller pad options are available call before ordering to confirm fit. Sealed water channelsNo leaks, no condensation on youWater stays inside the sealed internal channels of the pad. The outer fabric layer is dry and comfortable against skin no dripping condensation soaking your bedding, sling, or clothes like traditional ice packs cause. Durable and washableReusable through months of recoveryMedical-grade fabric holds up to daily use. Wipe clean with a mild disinfectant between sessions. Designed to last the entire recovery period and beyond this isn't a disposable pad. Sleep-friendly designWear it overnight safelyDelivers continuous cold at a controlled temperature not the frostbite-risk levels of raw ice against skin, so it's designed for overnight wear. Many post-op patients use overnight therapy for the first several nights in the recliner. Follow your surgeon's protocol on session duration. This determines whether the bicep strap will fit properly.Step 3 — Compare to the pad's fit range:This pad fits shoulder circumference 14" – 18" (36 – 46 cm) AND bicep circumference 10" – 14" (25 – 36 cm). Both measurements must fall in range for proper fit.Post-surgical swelling considerations:If you're measuring after surgery, your shoulder and upper arm may be significantly swollen. Consider both your current post-op measurement and your typical measurement. The adjustable straps give flexibility — if you're between sizes, call us to talk through which size is better. If you're outside the fit range:Larger or smaller pad sizes are available for the Polar Care Cube system. Call (713) 695-4939 before ordering and we'll help you find the correct size.COMPLETE SYSTEM & ACCESSORIESWhat else you may need for shoulder recovery
(call for current pricing)Polar Care Cube Motorized Unit (REQUIRED):The pump/reservoir that makes this pad work. If you don't have one already, this is the piece you need to complete the system. Call (713) 695-4939 for current pricing and availability — we typically stock the unit at our Houston showroom.Post-op Shoulder Sling / Immobilizer:Your surgeon will typically prescribe a specific sling type (standard sling, abduction sling with pillow, etc.) for 4–6 weeks post-op. The WrapOn shoulder pad is thin enough to wear under most post-op slings.Other Joint Pads for Polar Care Cube:The same Polar Care Cube unit works with knee, ankle, hip, back, and universal pads. Great to know if you or a family member need cold therapy for a different joint in the future.Ice for the Reservoir:The Polar Care Cube unit uses standard household ice. Keep a bag or two in the freezer during recovery — a full reservoir typically runs 4–6 hours. Some patients pre-freeze water bottles as a cleaner alternative to loose ice.Recliner Rental or Purchase:Most post-op shoulder patients sleep semi-reclined for the first 2–4 weeks. A comfortable recliner (or bed wedge that supports the same position) is nearly as important as the cold therapy system.Extension Hose (Optional):The standard hose length works for most setups. Extension hoses are available if you need extra reach between the unit and pad — helpful when placing the unit on the floor next to the recliner.Replacement Straps:The pad's adjustable straps hold up well but can eventually loosen with heavy use. Replacement straps are available if needed.Building a complete post-op shoulder recovery kit? Most patients recovering from shoulder surgery also benefit from: a proper post-op sling, a recliner or bed wedge for semi-reclined sleeping, button-up shirts (much easier to dress with one arm), a long-handled shower brush, and ice for the Cube reservoir. Call (713) 695-4939 and we can put together a complete post-op package based on your surgeon's specific protocol.DELIVERY OPTIONSStandard shipping or in-store pickup

The shoulder pad ships via standard ground shipping. For patients scheduled for surgery, we recommend ordering at least 3–5 days before your procedure so the pad arrives in time to start therapy immediately post-op. Expedited shipping available on request — call for a quote.In-store pickup available Available for pickup at our Houston showroom — usually same-day if you call ahead. If you're already picking up the Polar Care Cube unit, a sling, or other post-op supplies, we can bundle everything for one trip. Call (713) 695-4939 to confirm inventory.APPLICATION VIDEOSWatch how to apply the shoulder pad
(especially useful one-handed post-op)▶️ Polar Care Cube Shoulder Pad Application Official Breg application video · YouTube Watch VideoTIP
Watch the video before your surgery. Applying the shoulder pad one-handed after surgery is challenging — especially in the first days when your dominant arm may be the one immobilized. Have a family member or caregiver watch the video with you so they can help you apply the pad without moving your surgical shoulder. Practice once BEFORE surgery so everyone knows what to do post-op.FAQsCommon questions before ordering
(fit · sling · recliner · insurance)Do I really need the Polar Care Cube unit to use this pad?Yes. This listing is for the shoulder pad only — the anatomically-shaped wrap that goes over your shoulder. The pad requires the Polar Care Cube motorized cold compression unit to function. The unit is what circulates chilled water through the pad; without it, the pad is just an unfilled wrap.
Why does Breg sell them separately? Because the same Polar Care Cube unit works with different joint-specific pads (shoulder, knee, ankle, hip, back). Patients often need cold therapy for different joints over time — buying pads separately means you can add a knee pad later without buying a whole new system.
If you don't already own the Polar Care Cube unit, call (713) 695-4939 and we'll set you up with the complete system. Do NOT order this pad expecting to use it standalone — you'll be frustrated. Will this pad fit my shoulder? This pad fits shoulder circumference 14" – 18" (36 – 46 cm) AND bicep circumference 10" – 14" (25 – 36 cm). Both measurements need to fall in range.
To measure shoulder circumference: Wrap a soft measuring tape around your chest and upper back at armpit level, with arms relaxed at your sides. This is the standard "shoulder circumference" used for orthopedic braces.
To measure bicep circumference: Wrap the tape around the widest part of your bicep with your arm relaxed at your side (not flexed).
If you're measuring after shoulder surgery — your shoulder and upper arm are likely significantly swollen. Consider both your current measurement and your typical measurement. Swelling typically decreases substantially over the first 2–4 weeks post-op.
Larger or smaller sizes: Other pad sizes are available for the Polar Care Cube system. Call (713) 695-4939 before ordering if you're outside the range or between sizes. Can I use this after rotator cuff, labral, or shoulder replacement surgery?Yes — those are exactly the scenarios this system is designed for. Orthopedic surgeons routinely recommend motorized cold compression for:
• Rotator cuff repair (any type — SAC, PASTA, transosseous-equivalent) — Critical for the first 2–4 weeks
• Labral repair — SLAP tears, Bankart repair, posterior labral repair
• Total shoulder replacement (TSA) — Standard part of post-op protocol
• Reverse shoulder replacement (RSA) — Same as TSA, often longer duration of use
• Biceps tendon repair (SLAP-related or standalone)
• Arthroscopic subacromial decompression — For impingement
• AC joint reconstruction or excision
• Frozen shoulder capsular release
Your surgeon will provide specific guidance on when to start, session length, and duration of use. Bring the system to your pre-op appointment if you want to review it with your surgical team. Can I sleep in a recliner with the pad on?Yes — that's actually the situation this pad is designed for. Most post-op shoulder patients sleep semi-reclined for the first 2–4 weeks (lying flat puts pressure on the surgical shoulder and is often too painful). The dual-strap system keeps the pad in place against the sloped shoulder surface even at recliner angles.
A few tips for overnight recliner use:
• Place the Polar Care Cube unit next to the recliner on the floor or a side table — at recliner-seat level or below is ideal for gravity-fed water circulation
• Reservoir fills last 4–6 hours — if your surgeon wants therapy running the entire night, plan on a mid-night refill or ask about longer-runtime unit variants
• Position the hose to prevent kinking when you turn or reposition
• Have a caregiver check the pad position once or twice during the night for the first few nights until you're confident it stays put
Always follow your surgeon's specific overnight protocol. How does this work with my post-op sling? The WrapOn shoulder pad is designed to be worn under most standard post-op slings and immobilizers. The pad is relatively thin, so it fits under the sling without excessive bulk.
Standard application sequence:
1. Apply the WrapOn shoulder pad first — one strap around shoulder circumference, one around bicep
2. Connect the pad to the Polar Care Cube unit via the hose
3. Put the sling on over the pad
4. Position the hose so it exits the sling without kinking (usually at the bottom edge)
Special cases:
• Abduction slings with pillows (common for rotator cuff repair): The pad fits under most abduction slings — the pillow sits between your arm and body, and the pad sits on the shoulder itself
• Immobilizer straps: If your sling has multiple immobilization straps, the pad may need to be positioned carefully to avoid interference
• Ask your surgeon or PT if you have any specific concerns about your particular sling model
If you're unsure, bring the pad and your sling to a physical therapy or post-op follow-up appointment and have your provider verify the setup works for you.How long should I use cold therapy per session?Follow your surgeon's or physical therapist's specific protocol. General guidance:
• Post-op shoulder surgery (first 72 hours): Often prescribed for 20-minute sessions with 20-minute breaks, up to 6 hours total per day. Many protocols allow continuous overnight use.
• Post-op recovery (days 4-14): Typically 3–4 sessions of 20–30 minutes per day, especially before and after PT sessions.
• Post-op recovery (weeks 3+): Reduced frequency as swelling decreases — typically after PT sessions and as needed for pain flare-ups.
• Acute injury (non-surgical): 15–20 minute sessions, 3–5 times per day for the first 48–72 hours.
• Frozen shoulder / chronic issues: As directed by your doctor, typically 20 minutes before PT exercises.
Signs you should stop or reduce cold therapy: Numbness that doesn't resolve within a few minutes of removing the pad, skin turning white or bluish, pain that increases during the session, or any signs of frostbite. Always follow medical guidance. Is this covered by insurance, HSA, or FSA?HSA / FSA: Yes — cold therapy equipment for post-surgical recovery is a qualified medical expense under both Health Savings Accounts and Flexible Spending Accounts. Pay with your HSA/FSA card at checkout or submit for reimbursement with your receipt.
Insurance coverage: Varies widely by carrier and plan. Some insurance plans cover cold therapy units and pads as durable medical equipment (DME) with a physician's prescription and documented medical necessity (usually easy to establish for shoulder surgeries). Other plans consider it comfort/convenience and don't cover it.
To pursue insurance coverage:
• Get a prescription from your surgeon specifying "motorized cold compression therapy for post-operative shoulder recovery"
• Check with your insurance about DME coverage under HCPCS code E0218 (water circulating cold pad with pump)
• Call (713) 695-4939 and we can help you understand what your plan requires
Even when insurance covers rental, many patients choose to purchase because rental limits are often shorter than shoulder recovery timelines (which frequently run 8–12+ weeks). How do I clean and reuse the pad?The WrapOn shoulder pad is designed for repeated use throughout your recovery period and beyond:
• Between sessions: Wipe the outside of the pad with a soft cloth to remove any moisture from your skin. The outer surface should be dry.
• Daily cleaning: Wipe the outer fabric with a mild disinfectant (isopropyl alcohol or a diluted household disinfectant works well). Let air dry before next use.
• Never submerge or machine-wash the pad. The sealed internal water channels are designed for controlled circulation with the Cube unit, not immersion cleaning.
• Never use bleach or harsh chemicals that could degrade the pad material.
• Storage between recovery periods: Store flat in a cool, dry place. Not folded tightly for extended periods.
A well-cared-for pad lasts through the entire initial recovery, months of PT, and often years of occasional use for shoulder issues down the road. What if I have surgery on both shoulders?Bilateral shoulder surgery is unusual (most surgeons stage bilateral procedures 3–6 months apart to preserve some function during recovery), but it does happen. Options:
• Two separate pads and rotate therapy sessions: Buy two shoulder pads and alternate — one pad on the left shoulder for 20 minutes, then switch to the right. Works well if your surgeon's protocol allows sequential therapy.
• One pad and switch between shoulders: Cheaper but requires more active involvement (or a caregiver) since you'll have very limited arm function bilaterally.
• Discuss with your surgeon: Some surgeons prescribe different systems for bilateral shoulder surgery due to the extreme functional limitations. Get their specific recommendation.
Call (713) 695-4939 if you're planning bilateral shoulder surgery and we can talk through the best setup for your specific situation. Can this system be rented instead of purchased?Depending on your specific situation, rental of the Polar Care Cube unit may be available. Rental usually makes sense if:
• You only need cold therapy for a specific short recovery period
• Your insurance covers rental but not purchase
• You're not sure whether you'll benefit long-term
The pad itself is typically purchased, not rented — pads are considered personal-contact items and aren't typically re-issued between patients for hygiene reasons.
For shoulder recovery specifically, note that rehabilitation timelines are often longer than for other joints (rotator cuff repair recovery is typically 4–6 months, shoulder replacement even longer). Purchase often makes more sense than rental for shoulder patients.
Call (713) 695-4939 to discuss rental vs. purchase options for your situation. Can I use the pad during physical therapy?Yes — cold therapy immediately before or after PT sessions is one of the most valuable use cases:
• Before PT: 15–20 minutes of cold therapy before PT can help reduce baseline swelling so your range-of-motion exercises are less painful and more productive
• After PT: 20 minutes of cold therapy after PT helps control the inflammation response from the exercises themselves — this is often when patients need it most
The Polar Care Cube unit and pad are portable — many patients bring the system with them to PT appointments (or use it in the car ride home). If your PT clinic has electrical outlets available (most do), you can even use it during long PT sessions with the therapist's approval.
Talk to your physical therapist about the best timing for your specific rehabilitation program. When should I NOT use cold therapy?Cold therapy is generally very safe, but there are situations where you should consult your doctor before use:
• Reduced circulation conditions (Raynaud's disease, peripheral vascular disease, diabetes with reduced sensation)
• Cold hypersensitivity or cold urticaria
• Nerve damage or numbness in the treatment area (you may not feel warning signs of over-cooling)
• Open wounds that haven't yet closed (unless specifically directed by your surgeon)
• Cryoglobulinemia
• Rheumatoid arthritis — some patients respond poorly to cold; consult your rheumatologist
Also stop use if you experience: increased pain during the session (rather than decreased), skin turning white or bluish, numbness that persists after removing the pad, blistering, or any allergic reaction.
Always follow your medical provider's specific guidance. When in doubt, call your surgeon's office.Ready to set up your post-op cold therapy?
